2-day Strategic Design Master Class for Designers and Innovators

Strengthen your competence to create a more resilient organisation equipped for future events and potential crisis through a 2-day exclusive master class with the newest strategic design knowledge!

The 2-day Master Class ‘‘Seeing around corners: Create systematic design innovation cycles to build resilient organisations‘‘ will take place on November 16 and 17 and will be held by Sune Gudiksen who is Associate Professor, PhD and teaches Design for Play and communications design at Design School Kolding

Sune has worked extensively with design and innovation management, and more specifically with future scenario design and strategic foresight and he is one of those rare designer-researchers who both design the scenario and strategic foresight methods and apply them in a variety of organisations, as well as follow up with research into how the methods and approaches lead to specific interactions, dialogues and results.

During the two days, participants will work with cutting edge strategic design and innovation theories. The Master class flows between short lectures and hands-on workshop activities. Participants are encouraged to bring concrete development perspectives to the table and consider the master class as an opportunity to also explore new waters in the organisational innovation portfolio.

The Master Class is based on a highly visual, tangible and interactive format with dynamic conversations and network - participants can expect a different kind of learning experience in which they are highly active throughout all part of the master class. Participants are guided through practical theories and proven design innovation methods used in companies and organisations in Northern Europe.

To Whom

Participants with a position as design leaders, innovation managers, product managers, project leaders, head of developments and some years of experience.

Sign-up

The master class is exclusive with a limited spaces. First come, first served basis as sign-up. A certificate will be given to participants to showcase these skills and topics, as well as exposure on EDC’s circular design webpage as strategic design and scenario design experts.

REGISTRATION (open until Nov 12)

How Much

The masterclass fee is 215 € + VAT. Reduced price  180 € + VAT applies for Estonian Design Agencies network members.

The master class moves through three overall steps. Each of the steps comes with practical-oriented, theory overview:

STEP 1:

-  Creating an overview of external driving forces that might disrupt organisational status quo;
-  Build up plausible scenarios to challenge current product/service portfolios and to qualify decision-making.

STEP 2:

-  Moving from single ideas to strong, unfolded Opportunity spaces that can be used to guide product/service future portfolios;
-   Qualify Opportunity spaces through the plausible scenarios and first draft og product/service journeys.

STEP 3:

- Identifying obstacles and barriers in current practice that has to change for innovation to happen;
- Creating strategies to overcome such first innovation barriers and avoid organisational inertia.

Gains

As a result of the master class, the participants will acquire skills in how to organize systematic innovation cycles to create a more resilient organisation equipped for future events and potential crisis.

In an integrated approach combining several fields of practice, participants will work with a combination of strategic foresight, strategic design and service design. Through this, participants gain experience in how to build up both plausible and preferred scenarios of the future, deep-dive into opportunity spaces and avoid typical pitfalls and organisational innovation barriers.

In post-covid strategic activities, it has become even more vital to develop a mindset for an organisational reality with constant and radical change both for public and private sector. As design and innovation leaders you are likely to be intrapreneurs who can push for novel actions and pathways.

About the trainer

In the Picture: Sune Gudiksen

Sune Gudiksen is Associate Professor, PhD and teaches Design for Play and communictions design at Design School Kolding. He has worked extensively with design and innovation management, and more specifically with future scenario design and strategic foresight. One specialized medium of choice is play and game-based techniques to support stakeholder participation, high engagement and quality learning outcome. He is one of those rare designer-researchers who both design the scenario and strategic foresight methods and apply them in a variety of organisations, as well as follow up with research into how the methods and approaches lead to specific interactions, dialogues and results.

All the projects he does are in close collaboration with organisations. Collaboration can be short such as a one or two day workshop, systematic design sprints, or it can be longer half-year projects with several design and innovation activities/interventions.

He has been a project leader of several projects at various national innovation networks like BrandBase (national network for Branding), Invio (national network for experience economy), Service Platformen (national network for knowledge services) and RoboCluster (national network for automation & robotics). Plus project leader on international EU projects focusing on strategic design, innovation management and play and game techniques to support stronger development and learning. This gives an overview of various industries and critical needs.

He is a forerunner in developing radical new courses, which primarily intend to give participants the competence to develop their own innovative design, innovation and change tools, but also as a second goal provides an opportunity to initiate a change in current practices at organisations. This ranges from physical, analogue design methods to online collaborative methods and mixed reality simulations.

As co-organiser of two annual conferences BizMedia Design (2015, 2016, 2017 ) and CPH Change (2016, 2017) he created interesting and experimental platforms for new knowledge sharing and network activities. And as head of annual Design Camp for all master students (2018, 2019) he has organized ways to bring students and organisations closer together in collaborative learning spaces.

He has published several international books over the years directed towards industries and practitioners, as well as publishing a number of conference and journal articles in high-profile design and innovation management channels and communities.
